No namby-pamby tales of co-dependency here, the women of these movies really go too far for their special guys."Leave Her to Heaven" features Gene Tierney as a femme fatale who just wants to have some alone time with her husband. Everyone else wants him as well. She'll show them. Classic noir-melodrama.
In Fassbinder's "The Marriage of Maria Braun", Hanna Schygulla portrays an ambitious and street-wise woman during and after the second World War. I didn't know what to expect from this before I saw it. Now it's a favorite.
