One thing I particularly enjoy about foreign films is that they don't fit any Hollywood mold. Butterfly's Tongue explores various threads, tying none of them up at the end. A young boy grows up and learns a wide variety of lessons from his teacher/mentor, the Spanish Civil War tears villages apart. The acting of the boy and mentor are especially good.
