In these two movies, the victim/heroine Little Red Riding Hood is played by a grown up adult man, who is blind to the situation in front of him. Both movies take place in Venice, where the maze of alleys stand in for the woods. Both are cerebral horror movies. Good to watch together.
In Nicolas Roeg’s “Don’t Look Now”, the grieving father played by Donald Sutherland, actually chases a red riding hood, similar to one his daughter wore. Deliberately slow and building to the climax, you need to work a little to get the fright.
“The Comfort of Strangers” builds its tension as well. But, here you have Christopher Walken and Helen Mirren taking you in very strange places. You will say, “Ew!” a few times before the movie is over. Both use explicit sexual images to establish the intimacy and love that the protagonist couples have for one another. Definitely not one to watch with your kids.
