Program – Why can’t everyone be Dianne Wiest?

Lately, she played Gabriel Byrne’s mentor/therapist in the television show, “In Treatment”. Dianne Wiest knows how to show wisdom and warmth all wrapped up together. That’s why she does well in mother roles.
Wiest quietly steals “Parenthood” from Steve Martin, Jason Robards, and Tom Hulce. She is a single mom, struggling to raise two adolescent children. Anyone else would have exploited the comedy in her character's apparent permissiveness. Wiest shows us that she’s making the right choices.
In “Edward Scissorhands”, Wiest is the heart of the movie. Once again, Wiest shows the calculus of moral being: a function of rationality and caring.
Happy Mother’s Day
