Program – Nous on marche et nous on tue nous on crève

According to the French Resistance leader Henri Honoré d'Estienne d'Orves, "one could only be a resister if one was maladjusted."
Jean-Pierre Melville (“Bob, le Flambeur”, “Le Samourai”) made “Army of Shadows” (French) as if it were one of his austere paeans to the criminal underworld. The ensemble and quiet tension is emotionally involving.

“Le Cercle Rouge” (French) is one of Melville’s last movies. A classic caper movie, he creates an existential dilemma. The police chief insists that, “all men are guilty.” The robbers prove his argument, but they do it professionally, perhaps even as heroes.

Important Note: Please do not be put off by the fact that these are subtitled. Melville did not have a lot of dialog in his movies. You will get past the French language part very quickly.
