Program – Best Friends Forever

Here’re two movies that define girlfriends at their most psychically destructive and at their kick-ass best.
Kate Winslet made her movie debut in “Heavenly Creatures”. She and Melanie Lynskey play two high school social misfits in this fact-based movie directed by Peter Jackson of “Lord of the Rings”. These two girls need each other, yet rely too much on one another with terrible consequences. Acting is phenomenal from two women who were still in their teens when this was filmed.
“Death Proof” is a Quentin Tarantino action movie – violent and bloody – and tells the story of two groups of girlfriends who meet up with a serial killer with different results. For all his silly boy fantasies (this is the guy who made the classic “Chicks Who Love Guns” video for “Jackie Brown”), Tarantino seems to “get” the girlfriend part of his movies.
