We (Kipp, Jimmy, and I) love Harry Dean Stanton. He can make any movie good. He especially rules in Wild at Heart and he's the icing on the cake that is Christine. But those are only a small sampler of his awesomeness.

This double feature consists of two movies with Harry as a father in dysfunctional families. First is Twister (1989). When I first saw the preview for this movie I thought it could not actually exist because it looked so good (I must have been pretty stoned). Only two weeks later Jimmy made my cinema dreams come true and rented it. This movie's got awesome big name actors like Crispin Glover and Dylan McDermott, and is filled to the brim with dialog so funny it inspires reevaluation of your entire life. Some people might call the situations awkward, or painfully awkward, but my crowd lives for the uncomfortable moments that are the result of our highly evolved chimp brains. I fell asleep during the part with William Burroughs so I'll have to rent this one again.

Next is Paris, Texas. Harry as Travis is pure mystery and profundity. Travis has run away from his adult life for four years, to the point of slight amnesia, but all his baggage returns in a matter of days when his brother finds him. Travis is a "lone wolf" with an incredible aptitude for defending himself from what he does not like, but this is of course a huge problem for him. These are two movies that inspire fear, respect, and pity in the hearts of young people who have yet to produce offspring.
