Program – Übermenschen

The anti-heroes of these two movies have a sense of integrity to themselves, and the strength to be loyal to the vulnerable. When those values come into conflict, the drama steps up.
“High Sierra” was Humphrey Bogart’s first starring role, and his last as a gangster. He makes his violent ex-con, Roy Earle, a sympathetic and tragic character.
Based on Robert Stone’s novel, Dog Soldiers, “Who’ll Stop the Rain?”, features Nick Nolte as Ray Hicks – a cross between Neal Cassidy (Really! the Neal Cassidy), and Jack London’s Wolf Larsen. Great acting from Michael Moriarty, Tuesday Weld, Richard Masur, Charles Haid and Anthony Zerbe. Directed by the never disappointing, late Karel Reisz.
