Program – Gillian Anderson, Best Actress Ever?

Gillian Anderson transforms the movies she’s in, not just her roles in them. Watch these and you’ll see why she may be the best actress in movies today (whoa Bill, big claim). Two wonderful movies here – one sad and heartbreaking, the other noble and uplifting – and both are worth watching.
“The House of Mirth” is a period piece about a post-debut socialite raised to be a society wife, but who wanted independence. In fin de siècle New York City, there were few opportunities for a well-raised woman with more ambition than funds, higher standards than her options allowed. Anderson takes us through her aspirations and her tragedies. Warning: this movie is slow and is something of a downer. I still think it’s worth your time.
“The Mighty” is classified as a kid’s movie. Watch with your kids, but you don’t need kids to enjoy it. Filled with great actors, including James Gandolfini, Meat Loaf, Gina Rowlands, Harry Dean Stanton and Sharon Stone. Anderson has a small part, but she shines in it.
Watch these two, and join the Gillian Anderson fan club.
