“Clay Pigeons” didn’t go direct to video, but its release was so limited, that it just as well could have. The director, David Dobkin, went on to direct “Shanghai Knights” and “The Wedding Crashers”. This shares their energy. It’s a straight ahead mystery, with a sense of humor thrown in.

“The Player” is a Michael Tolkin screenplay, but this time directed by the master, Robert Altman. Altman keeps Tolkin’s quirky script on track, and choreographs a huge Altmanish ensemble
